You can see my bungy jumping video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fHvoQMk5hM
the actual jumping ends after around 43 seconds and you can hear all my friends talking about how i jumped feet first and how they wouldn't want to jump that way. . . and how the girl who is recoring thinks she not doing very well. . . blah blah blah. But you can also hear my blood curdling screams.
Welcome!
You may wonder at the title of my blog. And originally it was a title that was very insignificant (see first post). I have often had the desire to change my blog's name or even to start a new one as the address is also soo do or pseudo. But this last year at bible school I had an assignment on generosity based on two chapters from the Bible (Leviticus 25 and Deuteronomy 15) that changed my perspective a bit. In Deuteronomy God tells the Israelites "...you shall not harden your hearts, nor close your hand from your brother, but you shall freely open your hand to him and generously lend him sufficient for his need, whatever he lacks." (Deut. 15:7-8).
Soo do means open hand in Korean, or at least that is what I have been told in my karate classes, and after remembering this and working through my generosity assignment, I wondered to myself: Am I a soo do (open hand) christian or a psuedo christian? This question continues to challenge me. I often keep my time, money, and encouragements to myself and don't give generously. But God calls us to give all we have, for our security lies not in our weatlh, or health, or time, or place, but ultimately in Him.
This blog is for me to share my thoughts and my days, things I love and places I go, my struggles and His victories, and ultimately His work in and through me will hopefully make me a soo do christian.

What i've been learning
I continue to learn a lot of the same things in every book we study. one is that there is no one i can depend on more than God, he will always be there for me and i can cling to him and i should only cling to him. i also am continuing to see that jesus is all i need and he provides everything for me. that pretty much sums it up beside interesting facts and such, but everybody at the school continues to say they are learning to fully rely on God. the rest i can tell you next week.

guess what i did!?!?!?!?!?!?
I WENT BUNGY JUMPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it was absolutely terrifying, but still fun. i will put up a video of me jumping soon, kay?
yay, one minute i was standing on the edge of a one hundred and forty foot bridge talking to one of the employees, he is really patient, who kept telling me it was okay to be scared and trying to calm me down and the next minute i jumped and was screaming and falling through the air. hehehe

Teachers so far...
these are some of the teachers i've had so far this year.
Arnold Fruchtenbaum: taught 'theLife of Christ from a Jewish Perspective' and ended each class with several Rabbi jokes. it was a really eye opening class
Bruce Cambell: Taught 'Table of Contents' he had a huge bible timeline on butcher paper that he travels around the world with.
we also had a delightful women named Sue Rhea who taught Colossians and Steve thiesen from Capernwray Quebec who taught 2 Corinthians. we've also gone through 1 Corinthians and Acts.
Team Initiatives Course
These are some pictures of my team and i on the Team Initiatives Course
this is The Wall, we had to get al 14 members of our team from the ground over the wall as quickly as possible. it's about 12 feet high. we did it in 1 minute and 27 seconds!
at this station we raced another team ontwo planks of wood with ropes tied to them and the whole team had their left foot on one and their rigth on thother and we had to move together kind of like a three legged race.

hello!
hello Everyone. here i am in beautiful British Columbia! Unfortunately i don't have my camera cord with me so you will have to wait for pictures. But i am thoroughly enjoying myself here and i am learning so much. Last week i went on my "venture"( the bungy jumping was all full so i went caving instead). it was really quite amazing. we got to experience 100% darkness and it is strange because your eyes will try to adjust but they will never be able to. and we did a lot of climbing, we climbed through crevices and holes and up a trickling waterfall and slide sideways through a crack in the rock that was less than a foot and a half wide. way cool! any way as soon as i get my camera hook up i'll post all my pics.I love all of you and i am praying for you.

War
I think war is one of the hardest subjects for me to take a side on. I believe killing another human being is wrong because we are all made in the image of God and no one has the right to take a life, only God should. But how can I say that killing someone who is trying to kill you or who is tormenting hundreds of others is wrong? If someone doesn't stop them they could destroy so much.
Sadly, it is still wrong because that same person that hurts our world is also made in the image of God? What is the answer then? That some things in this world are neccesary evils? No, I don't believe that. The answer then, I guess, is that this world is imperfect and none of this is the way God intended it to be.

School

I'm Back! sorry about the absence. I'm getting ready to leave for Canada in about one month. and my sister is sharing some interesting stories with me about living up there.
There are a few things i still need to decide though. one of them is which "venture" do i want to go on. Each student has the chance to go on a weekend trip (venture) and i don't know which one to choose. There's surfing, backpacking, hiking, caving, sailing, or bungee jumping. luckily i still have a month to decide.
Other than that my family and I will be leaving the 12th of September and going to Seattle, then on to Victoria, where we are planning on having High Tea at the Buschart Gardens, then to Chemainus, which is where i catch the ferry to Thetis Island where the school is located.

Ahhhh!
I love the fact that no matter how bad i feel there is always something to cheer me up. today started out as a lazy day and I really hate that because before you know it half of your day is gone and you've done nothing. So when I find myself in that position I tell myself to get off my but and get active so I started fresh with a shower and cleaned my room and now I feel wonderfully organized. Yay!

In English we are currently writing an essay in response to a prompt about one of the many soliliquys in Hamlet. Our teacher collected our first drafts and handed them back out at random and had us take whichever one we got and type it up over a five day weekend. Before leaving class he told us that we had better have them typed because we had five days to search the universe to find someway to do so. he followed that with this (and I qoute): "Do not darken my doorway with emptyhandedness... And WOE! to those who were not here today"Thursday, February 15, 2007
Senior lost
Every year my high school, Skyview, loses a senior. My freshman year a kid died in a fire, my sophmore year it was the dean's niece, my junior year Andrew Williams drowned, but this is my senoir year and this death hit the hardest. All year I have been wondering who it would be. "Who's next?" I would think "it could be me or Sara (my best friend), or anyone" both Sara and I realized this and talked about it. I knew it would happen and it did.
When I got to my first class today Mr. M told us that our conselor, Mr. W, was here to talk to us about Jennifer. And I knew that Jennifer was gone.
She went up into the mountains with her friend and boyfriend and got stuck in the snow, now she is gone. I didn't know her that well and I only talked to her a few times in my life but I can see her in my mind sitting across the room from me in government class, she was quiet and funny and she had a smile that turned up on one side. I knew her early on in highschool and when I saw her again she had a funky haircut like the one in the picture above. A friend of her's said she wanted to go into counseling and all i could think was "she would have been good at it.
Though I didn't know her well I cried when I found out she had passed away and I weep for all the students who have died in the past. Our counselor said she used to make jokes about National Free Balloon Day and I know whenever I see a bright-colored balloon in the future I will remember Jennifer Burkey and the hole her death left in our Senoir Class of 2007
